Upcoming update will allow Tesla Cybertrucks to recognize one another on the road (2025)

The Cybertruck is one of the most distinct vehicles on the road. However, the irony is that the truck is unaware of its uniqueness as it displays other Cybertrucks on the infotainment screen as generic pickup trucks. A Tesla owner miffed by this misrepresentation has received assurances that a future software update will correct the behavior.

The Cybertruck Guy uploaded a photo (credited to Chris Palmer) on X showing a Cybertruck ahead but rendered on display as a nondescript truck. Palmer apparently took the picture from inside a Cybertruck, and The Cybertruck Guy wondered why the vehicle failed to identify its kind.

Tesla's Lead Engineer, Wes Morrill, responded to the post, stating the ability to recognize fellow Cybertrucks will be added to the feature list. He, however, indicated the truck will first be able to identify trailers. "Will put it on the list. Right after making it recognize trailers instead of looking like a semi truck is trying to mate with Cybertruck."

Cybertrucks can tow up to 11,000 pounds. Elon Musk's other businesses, SpaceX and The Boring Company, routinely use them to pull rocket parts and tunnel-digging machines.

Meanwhile, Musk once said that Teslas would be able to accurately represent other Teslas, including details such as model and color, with the potential to make it into a game. However, years have passed since that promise without the feature materializing.
